Year 1 of University
Analogue Report Labs Report
This was one of the first pieces of work I did when I started University back in 2017. It was quite interesting to look into this when starting university, it opened up what these mean for audio and audio convertors. Not my best work but a good start.

Found Sound Production
The report below goes through what I did to create the track, Human, where I was tasked to record samples and make instruments and synths out of them. Most of the synths were created out of my own and my friend's voice, thus the name Human

Research and Produce: Hip Hop
This is one of my earliest works in University and I am sorry for the horrible structure of this PDF. Besides this work not looking great, I believe it to be a good piece of work from my 1st year, as I was tasked with researching a genre of music and then creating a piece of music within that genre and I chose Hip Hop and it was interesting to see the culture of hip hop and its early beginnings. This research helped me create this track, as a technique that I used from Hip Hop's history is sampling as I sampled It's time to wake up by Jarrard Wright, well sampled may not be the correct word as instead of simply grabbing the sample, time stretching and dropping into a beat, I decided to learn it on guitar and tweak it to fit the beat.

Year 2 of University
Advanced Audio Production
This work is really interesting and one of the works that I have done that I believe should be looked at if nothing else as this shows my abilities when it comes to recording, being a producer, collaboration with other people, mixing, time management, organizational skills and mastering and this is interesting as this good work but I am better now and have improved upon all those skills. This also shows my skills and ability to record, mix and produce different styles of music as the Jimbo track is a Progressive Metal track and the Near Mrs track is an Indie Rock track.

Creative Music Technology
|
This has to be one of the most creatively strimulating pieces of work I have ever done, working with two other people in my course we created a synthwave track with the twist of it being comedic as my friend Michael has a rap personality called Lil Backpack which is a comedic rapper and singer so we combined that with synthwave. This was also technologically stimulating as we got to use some analogue synths like the Juno 6 and Waldorf Microwave XT, this was also the first use of the Reaktor 6 which is something I bought straight after this work was finished. This has to be one of the best musical projects I have ever done.

Industry Practice Work
This work is massive and its understandable that you might not want to read through the whole lot, but what I suggest is to look through and read the Gareth Jones work and Alexis Animation work as these are the best pieces of work within this project. The Gareth Jones work speaks for itself as Gareth is a Professional Producer and Mix Engineer who has worked with Depeche Mode, Einstürzende Neubauten, Wire and Erasure, he came to our university to help record a band called BRIA and three of us Audio and Music Technology students got to help them record this band and it was an absolutely amazing, eye opening experience of what real studio work looks like and I loved it. I learned alot, not much technical but rather what it means to be in a real studio recording session, its fast paced, on point, loads of fun and super creative. The alexis project was super interesting as this was the first experience of writing a track to be used with a video and the music had to fit the flow of the video which can be tricky and took time to figure out on how to do it but fortunately I was able to figure it out and created a track that worked well with the video. The Alexis track is rough but still a good piece of work.

Audio Studio and Venue Design
This work is more science-like and does not say much of how good I am in a studio but it does show my understanding of studios and venues, I would say the more important PDF would be the studio one as the studio design shows my knowledge of what makes a studio and what issues to look out for and what ticks. I understand that where I am sat in the studio can influence what I hear and I know that the hot spot is the best spot to analysis the music, I understand room modes and have found myself being able to hear the difference when walking around a room.

Audio Mastering
This is my first proper mastering project, in advanced audio production we were tasked with mastering but were not taught much and was not fully graded on our masters but this audio mastering project was the proper thing and it was really eye opening and really advanced my skills when using production tools like compressors and equalisers aswell understanding the importance of the signal chain. Our teacher, John Paul Braddock who is a very experienced and established mastering engineer, he is a fantastic teacher and made me see things differently and advanced my knowledge and skills massively and make me a better audio engineer as a whole. I would not consider my self a mastering engineer but I am confident enough to do it if asked. The google drive has the three mastering tracks I did for this project.

Music and Visual Media
This project's written work is finished but the actual film project is still in the works and plans to be completed soon, the video will not be linked within this due to it not being finished and also this work belongs to a client and I do not want to release an unfinished piece without permission. But this section will be updated when it is finished. This project was massive and super fun, this is my first proper project doing foley, sound design and video/ audio editing with Premiere Pro and it was fun, and something I am very interested in.

Recording on Location
This report talks about two projects done, a surround sound track and a comparion between the American Epic style recording verses a tape style recording. It is worth me noting that I have only linked the Jazz Quartet as this work is a good representation of my current skill and work but the surround sound track does not, unfortunately the work does not fit what I believe to be my current skill level and am not happy with it. If you wish to hear this surround sound track then I wont mind showing you but I want to state that it is not good. Besides that, the Jazz Quartet is great and was super fun to record, this was my first experience with recording and setting up the tape machine for recording and it was fun and stimulating.
